Thank You

Remember Gol Maal? Yes, its the movie that featured Amol Palekar in a "double" role trying to outwit Utpal Chatterjee. Remember Namak Haram, Anari, Anupama, Chupke Chupke, Sadma, Mili, Abhimaan, Khoobsurat, Bawarchi... the list goes on. All these movies have one thing in common... the director.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee is no more.

Hrishida is, (according to me) the greatest Indian filmmaker. His greatness stems from one single attribute of his movies - his stories were about the common man. Many of his movies din't have a "superstar" 'cos the power of the script and narrative were such that the audience din't need one. If you asked a Hindi movie buff to list his all-time favorite movies, chances are you'll find a few movies directed by Hrishida.

Filmmakers become immortal if they make one great movie. But, here is a person who made dozens of great movies. Without knowing, Hrishida gave me lots of wonderful gifts in the form of his movies.....

Perhaps his greatest gift to me is Anand, my all-time favourite movie.

Thank You Hrishida.

Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye
Saanjh ki Dulhan Badan Churaye
Chupke se Aaye

Mere Khayalon ke Aangan Mein
Koi Sapnon ke Deep Jalayen
Deep Jalayen
