What a waste...

So, India lost, again. No surprise. What is amusing however, is that we Indians still watch them play. They never learn to win consistantly, we never unlearn the habit of watching them lose.

However, there was a wonderful escape from the trashing Ponting and Martyn were handing out. Zee Studio was playing Music of the Heart. What a wonderful movie! If you haven't seen it yet, keep a lookout on Zee Studio for a rerun, or better still, go rent the DVD. Its worth the money. If you had any doubts about Meryl Streep being one of the greatest ever actors, this movie will lay it to rest.

Need a place to hide my face

One fine working day, a friend at office says, "I am taking a week off for Diwali, lots of travelling to do, relatives to meet".

I say, "Lucky you! You atleast get to go to new places to meet relatives. All I have to do, is start on the ring-road, take deviations every so many kms, and in the end, I'd have visited all my relatives".

He asks, "So, how many states have you seen in India?"

"Karnataka for sure. All the rest are the South Indian states, and I haven't seen them extensively"

He says, "Hehe, my son has seen 5 states"

"Hmm"

And nonchalantly, he adds, "My son is 5 months old"

Dang! what a fantastic put down! Guess I have to actively seek to see more of India, especially the North.

Hobbies

Over the last few years, I've been meaning to pick up a serious (!!??) hobby. I thought music would be a good pastime, but then came the dilemma whether it should be vocal or instrumental; if instrumental, what instrument?

The good thing for you folks is, it does look like I won't be troubling you with my music ;-)

Over the last few weekends however, I attended a course on Basics in Still Photography. The result of this course is that the dial on my Rebel isn't moving from "M" for the forseeable future. (For the photographically challanged, it means you set the aperture, shutter speed and even the ISO).

Here are a couple of samples...

Is this my calling? Only time will tell. But I hope to put the best of efforts to hone my skills.

Quote of the day

I heard this saying for the first time today "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig". For some reason I found this a wonderful analogy to describe certain things that you feel strongly (averse?) about.

Apparantly, this isn't a new saying.... atleast in Wyoming.

Entertainers

Some people sure know how to entertain. Take for example an interview I was watching the other day. Here is a rough transcribe:

Interviewer (Ir): BTW, you are probably the first actor to have contributed a new word to the English dictionary.
Interviewee (Ie): Really? Which word is that?
Ir: Jiggy
Ie: Wow! They put that in?
Ir: Yeah
Ie: Wow! Now, I've to look up what it really means... 'cos I have absolutely NO IDEA what it means!!!

You may have already guessed who this person is.... yes, Will Smith. Robin Williams is another such entertainer.... there sure are many more.... inputs?
